Stipple engraving by James Denison-Pender on an optical
crystal rectangular paperweight.

Height 11cm, width 9cm, depth 3cm.

This engraving was inspired by the folk art tradition of clay
modeling in Brazil. An image of a pediatrician sittingbehind
his desk is taken from a small clay model by Elias Vitalino,
grandson of Mestre Vitalino, the artist who did most to
develope the art form back in the 1940s. Although the model
is very stylised it is also very human. The engraver wanted to
see how he would relate to real people, so in front of him sits a
worried mother with three children.

Engraved on the back surface.
